Hello, Hopefully, this email finds you fit and well. This is the latest of our Monday emails taking a different look at or a deeper dive into the companies and people who make some of the highest-rated food on DFA — plus the food itself. Remember, we’re not paid to promote these brands and they’re reviewed in the same way as all dog foods on the site. Today’s subject is the proof being in the eating of the pudding. Or, in this particular case, in the eating of the dog food. This is the story of 12-year-old
Huntley.
It’s a touching tale of how a change in one dog’s diet — in this case to The Farmer’s Dog — probably saved his life. Here's what
Huntley’s pet parent, Alex, told us: "Last year, I lost my dog, Gisele, who was a true friend and companion to me — an incredibly special dog with whom I had a remarkable bond. When she died, I was crushed. But I had still had her sister, Ava, and her brother, a 12-year-old Golden Retriever called Huntley. However, just weeks after Gisele passed, something changed in Huntley. After years of happily eating a really good kibble, he stopped. He wouldn’t touch it — he still won’t. He began to lose weight dramatically and, with the severe arthritis he already had, he could barely
walk.
I thought this was it. I thought I’d lost him too. I didn't know if I could survive that. I had to try something else, so I researched fresh foods and settled on The Farmer’s Dog. To my relief, he ate it. And, after a while, his strength returned. He’s now put on 5lbs, can get up stairs, and can walk a mile and a half. I’ve even cut back the arthritis meds. I genuinely believe the food played a massive part in giving him this strength back. I know it’s not cheap, but what price could I put on his life?" You can meet Huntley and Alex, and hear more of their story, by clicking on the video below. Warning: Huntley’s adorable.
