Hey, Happy Wednesday! Just five days until Christmas. I don’t
know how you spend your holidays but I’m always away visiting family. I’ve never spent Christmas in my own home — not since I was a kid, anyway. I wish we had a country mansion with sprawling grounds where all our relatives (and their pets) could gather, so my wife and I wouldn’t have to fit gifts, food, wine, our dog and our winter clothes into the car, and hit the road for two weeks. But that’s the way it is. We’re seasonal nomads and wouldn’t be away from our families at this time of year. You only get so long together on this planet.
The same goes for our dogs. They’re so very special and we are
incredibly fortunate to have them, but they’re with us for a limited time.
This week, Julia, our Content Director, said goodbye to her adored Black Labrador, Martha. I met Martha a few times and she was a beautiful soul. Julia and her family are understandably grief-stricken. I know from the emails I receive that many of you will share their pain and wish them comfort.
The finite nature of our
relationships is the greatest agony of being a dog parent, but it should also be a motivation to give them the best life possible, just as Martha had.
This is Martha Hug them, play with them, walk them, talk to them, let them know how loved they are. That’s all they care about. They don’t worry about the past or future, they have no concept of regret or fate. Each day, to them, is the greatest day ever because they’re with you. That’s all I want to say, really. I guess I should mention something about dog food. Well, giving them a good life includes feeding them the best
dog food you can afford so check out our Best Dog Food lists. And if you have any friends who aren’t signed up for our recall alerts and feeding tips, maybe forward them this email or send them to the Dog
Food Advisor site. Have a fabulous time, however you choose to spend it. Love to you and your dogs.
