Hey, Happy Wednesday! Superman has Kryptonite, the Wicked
Witch of the West has water, and Achilles had his heel. Many animal lovers also have a critical weakness: puppy dog
eyes. It takes nerves of steel or a hard heart to resist those glistening pools of “love me” vibes — and boy do dogs know it. They know exactly when to turn
them on, which is usually when they want something — often food. They’re even better at it than little kids, most of whom only
have enough patience and stamina to play the cute card for a short while before giving up, throwing a tantrum or turning on the waterworks.
Dogs are the ultra-runners or Zen Buddhists of trying to get what they
want. They do not give up so easily. I wrote the other week of the attention I receive from my dog when I make a peanut butter sandwich — if it wasn’t for the fact
that I’m hungry and want to eat the thing, his silent perseverance would last for hours. Yes, puppy eyes look adorable and a dog’s unending determination can be quite
amusing, but it’s also begging. And begging can land you in hot water when it comes to your dog’s physical and behavioral health. This is why we’ve written this article: Why do Dogs Beg and How do You Stop Them? The answer to the first part isn’t just “food”, by the way, and I encourage you to have a read. I’ll sign off by wishing all those who celebrate it or otherwise enjoy it a very happy Easter.
