Hello,
Depending on how closely you follow the machinations of government, you may or may not know that a new Farm Bill is currently being discussed in Congress.
Recently, a group of 33 non-profit organizations from the hemp industry urged legislators to introduce seven measures relating to hemp and/or CBD — one of which was to permit hemp in animal feed. The aim is to add clarity and regulation to an area where there is little, and to stimulate an already booming but
restricted industry when it comes to CBD for dogs.
Now, we’re not going to get into the details of their proposals, the Farm Bill,
or any other government legislation (it's Monday and our brains aren't up to it). But a lack of legal definition or oversight can be worrying for some pet parents, especially when it comes to relatively new markets such as CBD or supplements for pets.
So we asked Alexandra Wakim, CEO at Chou2 Pharma, for her take.
“While legal measures can certainly be beneficial, especially from a quality control perspective, there are several reliable safety measures and standards pet owners can reference in the meantime," she told
us. "Start by looking for the National Animal Supplement Council Quality Seal, a solid team of experts behind the brand and products, and available COAs. And of course, speak to your veterinarian. Not all CBD products are created equal, so education is a crucial step in finding the best fit.”
This is also a good opportunity to remind you of four articles we have on the site relating to CBD for dogs.
