Hey, Happy Wednesday! Here at Dog Food Advisor, we like to listen to you. We get hundreds of emails each week and, while we can’t reply to them all, we do our best to get back to the polite and constructive ones (even if they’re critical). For example, we’ve just changed the link color across the new-look site to the old darker blue because a couple of visually-impaired readers wrote in to say they had trouble seeing them. (The change may take a day or two to show.) One of the most exciting things to find in an email from a subscriber (reminder: if you know dog parents who aren’t signed up, send them here) is a suggestion for an article.
So I thank Linda Luera and Judie Lada for requesting information
on glyphosate. Glyphosate is a herbicide present in almost everything you or your dog eat, unless you have a 100% organic diet or don’t live in the U.S.
There’s a lot of alarmism when it comes to, well, pretty much
everything these days, thanks in particular to social media. It’s understandable; you read something scary and you worry. But, of course, anything on social media should be taken with a pinch of salt. When it comes to glyphosate, it would be very easy to become alarmed. And there are certainly reasons to be concerned and watchful — studies suggest that it's connected to a whole host of health issues, including cancer. Which is why our nutritionist, Laura, has written this article: Glyphosate in Dog Food: The Facts It’s not designed to alarm you, just to make you aware and informed. As I said, this chemical, in small doses at least, is very hard to avoid — as are many things we’d rather not have in our bodies. I’d urge you not to panic but all information helps make decisions. Next week I promise you an email about a dog food ingredient that sounds bad but isn’t.
