Hey,
Happy Wednesday!
When you reach a certain age, it
becomes easy to think that “everything was better back in the day” — even when that day was only 10 or 20 years ago.
Nostalgia can blind us, of course. The past is often viewed through rose-tinted lenses and we’re often too slow or unwilling to recognize the benefits of new things, ideas and attitudes.
I am guilty as charged, by the way. But there’s one thing I swear is worse now: ‘doubling down’. It goes like this…
Someone has and/or expresses an opinion; this opinion is proven to be wrong or partially flawed; said person not only refuses to acknowledge the facts and learn from them, but decides to become even more
entrenched in their views.
And, of course, the internet being the internet, they’ll always find someone who’ll tell them their
wrong opinion is right, that their incorrect facts are correct.
I mean, why? Surely people still want to learn? Surely humility isn’t a bad thing
now?
This isn’t just me venting. There’s a point...
