Apologies for sending a second email today, but the biggest update yet has happened regarding the Purina dog food reports and subsequent controversy. 

Having been criticized for a lack of updates and openness on the subject, the FDA has released a summary of the situation, its investigation and — crucially — its findings.

It's pretty comprehensive, detailing the kind of reports it received and its response — including speaking to pet parents, the testing of opened and unopened dog food, and the inspection of Purina's Iowa facility.

You can also find a link there to the FDA's full summary. But if you just want the bottom line — the FDA's findings — here's a brief quote from the summary's conclusion.

"In the recent situation regarding the adverse event reports mentioning Purina pet food, there was no direct or consistent connection between the wide range of adverse events submitted to the FDA, and evidence does not conclusively link the reported adverse events to Purina pet food."

I doubt this will end the story for some people but, like the FDA, Dog Food Advisor can only work with the facts available to us. We can't make judgements or form opinions without evidence to back them up. We will always monitor situations for new information.

For us, the FDA appears to have done its job. Some would argue that it could have been more transparent during the process, but the most important thing is that it followed that process as thoroughly as possible.

So, as it stands, we have no reason to disagree with the FDA's conclusion.
