Hey, Happy Wednesday! Like many people, I wanted to look my
best at my wedding. For me, this meant losing a few pounds. I was in pretty good shape but the little vain voice in my head kept reminding me that the photos from that day would be on family walls (and social media) for decades to come. So, I did intermittent fasting. If you haven’t heard of
this, it comes in various forms. Some people don’t take in any calories for a set period of time, often 16 hours. I did something called the 5:2 diet, which means restricting your calories for two days a week and having a normal, healthy diet for the other five.
It was a year of many weddings and bachelor parties and the like, so I
wanted something that allowed me to enjoy my food and drink most days. And it worked.
It worked too well, in fact. I’ve never been able to fit into my wedding suit since. Alongside weight loss, there are other health benefits linked with intermittent fasting, including heart health and blood sugar control — with remarkable results being reported among diabetics. So it’s no surprise that pet parents want to know if intermittent fasting could be good for their dog’s health. So, we spoke with our in-house nutritionist, Laura, and put together this article:
Now, I reckon my dog would probably eat me in my
sleep if I denied him one of his regular feeds, but it can work for some dogs, as you’ll see if you read the article. It might even be the answer to their health issues. My diet is currently more 7-Eleven than 5:2, so maybe I need to try that suit on again as motivation to eat a little better.

How to Keep Your Dog Healthier For Longer
|
If dog parents could change one thing, it would be to have their dog by their side for eternity. Unfortunately,
dogs have shorter lifespans than humans. But the good news is, while there’s no way to guarantee a longer life for your dog, there are ways to enhance a dog’s healthspan — the period when they’re free of illnesses that are seriously detrimental to their day-to-day lives — and keep their tails wagging for longer. We asked Brandon Stapleton, DVM, and head veterinarian for 5-star-rated The Farmer’s Dog, for his tips on enhancing a dog’s
healthspan.
