Hello, What goes into a dog food, and therefore your dog, is vitally important. Okay, we’re stating the obvious there, but there’s an additional, also vital, factor often overlooked: how the nutrients from that food, once in the dog, get into their system. There’s a term for it: Digestibility. And it’s something that differs from food to food. To get the lowdown on dog food digestibility, we spoke to Brandon Stapleton, DVM, head veterinarian for The Farmer’s
Dog. You can read what he said here: Why Digestibility is Crucial for Dog Food
As the title suggests, Dr. Stapleton explains what digestibility is, why it’s important, what affects digestibility and how it’s measured (trigger warning: it involves
poop). A digestibility ‘score’ is sadly not something you’ll find on a dog food label (maybe it should be) but it’s
something worth knowing about, so we strongly suggest you read the article. You could always contact the manufacturer of your dog’s food to see if they’ve measured it for digestibility. In related news, The Farmer’s Dog has announced $10m of investment into veterinary research. You can read
about it here. And don’t forget, DFA subscribers can get an exclusive 60% off first orders of The Farmer’s Dog but only by clicking through from this link. You can read our impartial review of the brand here.
