Hey,
Happy Wednesday.
I often begin these emails with
an anecdote or a flippant joke or a terrible pun. But the subject of this week's email is so depressing I really can't do that.
It's about one of the worst rumors
surrounding pet food: that it contains euthanized cats and dogs.
At some point, you might have read or heard someone claim this, or
ask if it's true. Considering the history of pet food manufacturing, and the "profit first, people second" approach of many businesses across all U.S. industries, it's perhaps not unthinkable (even though the thought is horrific).
Which is why we've covered the subject in this article:
Do They Really Use Dead Dogs and Cats to
Make Pet Food?
The short answer, thankfully, is no — and the article explains why. But it also tells us why everything is far from rosy or as clear as it should be. Indeed, there might have been a time when it was theoretically possible.
I don't want to try to reduce the article to an email — there's more to it than I could easily summarize, so please take a look at it. I hope you find it a fascinating read.
