Hello,
A news story broke a few days ago that received less
press coverage than perhaps it deserved.
The National Advertising Division (NAD) ruled that some of Freshpet's video ads misleadingly implied its dog food is "human grade".
It’s a term you see on a lot of dog foods, but one with a fairly specific meaning — hence the NAD’s decision. Freshpet doesn’t fit the definition and has said it will comply with the NAD's recommendations to stop using those ads.
So, what is human-grade food? One brand that qualifies is The Farmer’s Dog. Indeed, it was this
brand that successfully made the claim about Freshpet to the NAD.
We asked Dr. Brandon Stapleton, DVM and head veterinarian at The Farmer’s Dog, to answer our questions on the subject.
